'Tis the season to be slutty?
I went costume shopping with a friend over the weekend and I was horrified by how short and revealing the costumes are. Since when did Halloween be an excuse for women to dress in a way that, I believe, is demeaning to women? As I was watching TV last night, I saw commercials for the Halloween episodes that will be on this week. One girl was wearing a "black cat" outfit that clearly was a headband with ears, low-cut dress with a short hemline. I'm really starting to sound like my mother. I don't understand why women think they have to dress this way! What happened to being creative with costumes?

I agree with you here, i feel like most girls use halloween as an excuse to dress slutty and everytime i go out i feel strange cause im not dressed like this.(Last year i was a ninja turtle which was not revealing, and this year im being dora the explorer) while all the other girls had mini dresses and lingerie on.Guys are often excited for this just as much as the girls are. haha i hear you tho on sounding like your mother, halloween was always about creativity and who had the best costume, not the most revealing one!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, but I am not like that at all! I never was or will be into the corset outfits and slutty nurse costumes, to name a few! This year my friends and I are being Legends of the Hidden Temple teams and litterally wearing sneakers, tshirts, and athletic shorts. I would rather have a funny comfy outfit than heals and exposing myself!
ReplyDeleteI might be one of those girls.. Not really slutty though!! So don't judge me! But most of my costumes end up being a little on the short side (thankfully I'm only 5'2, so what would be considered ridiculously short for some is an average skirt for me.)
ReplyDeleteBut I never really saw it as demeaning; maybe because I don't really dress slutty. But the girls who do- the ones who wear their bras and panties out with a pair of bunny ears and call it a costume? Slutty & demeaning.
I think Halloween has slowly become a more adult holiday, and has been doing so for the past couple of decades. I think people just like to push the envelope every year- to see what they can get away with. I think I'm going to blog about this now too =) haha
I am wearing a "sexy" outfit too but it's not very short or revealing. I wonder how this started - girls dressing sexy on halloween. Most females want to look good and not blend in; maybe because it has become the norm, all females now want to also look cute and sexy on halloween so they look as good as the other girls dressed slutty in the same room.
ReplyDeleteI am kind of hoping to escape halloween this year. I don't mind the holiday, Its a great idea and could be fun but it never really grew on me. I'm not a huge candy person these days, and I really hate spending the money on costumes, and i certainly wouldn't have the time or talent to make one. But if I did it probably wouldn't be to revealing, with me being a guy and all.
