One of my guilty pleasures is that I like to follow celebrities and know what's going on in Hollywood. I am a big movie person but one movie series that I will not watch ever is the Twilight Saga. I heard about Twilight and how everyone loves it, so I decided to read the first book. I hated the first five pages (sorry to those of you that love it). The media got wind of how much all these girls, ages 14-23 (in some cases even older), swoon over the books. It has been a great way to make money off of young girls. Put a vampire that sparkles on a T-shirt and you can make thousands. I loved the Harry Potter books and movies, they have a huge diverse fan following but I don't think it compares to the millions of girls that argue with each other over Jacob and Edward. For some reason sparkling vampires have been the latest and greatest way to make money in TV and Film. There is True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Twilight Saga, and the newest (personally my favorite) Vampires Suck. TV and Film producers really know how to get an audience, throw in a sparkling vampire and I think you have a hit for tween girls.
That's my little rant... I got the Twilight subject off the list and will never mention it again.

I am so right there with you. I couldn't get past the fact that the vampires sparkle to even remotely be interested in this franchise. Vampires DON'T sparkle. They just don't.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on the whole Twilight phenomena. I myself am an avid Anne Rice fan and enjoyed her vampires. This appeal to the younger female crowd amazes me at the response that it gotten. However I will never turn one page or watch 5 minutes of anything to do with Twilight.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you! I hate the Twilight series- partially because I grew up with Harry Potter so I have a kind of obligation to defend anything compared to it.
ReplyDeleteI did read all the books, just so I could actually have something to base my argument on. I found the writing repetitive, boring, and uncreative; not to mention just down-right bad. The vampire thing has been way over done.
ps, Stephenie Meyer totally ripped off the True Blood series (which was originally a book series from about 2001 by Charlaine Harris). Just saying. hahah
